Nicholas Carella
Nicholas Carella is an award-winning creator, actor, writer and producer who is relentless in his pursuit of exciting projects. Right after graduation, Nicholas founded Ante-M Theatre (with Michelle Ouellet) and produced independent theatre productions in Toronto for nearly a decade, including the Canadian Premiere of Michael John LaChiusa's musical "Hello Again". In 2009, Nicholas was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Screenplay (with Vince Gabriele) for his feature film-writing debut, "Hooked on Speedman", which was distributed by Entertainment One and enjoyed a decade long broadcast license in North America. In 2011, Nicholas co-founded Sociable Films with Michelle Ouellet and Ali Liebert, and produced Sociable Films' flagship feature film, "Afterparty", distributed by Mongrel Media.
Nicholas has also made his mark in the ever-growing realm of Digital Media, serving as head-writer and showrunner of the Canadian Screen Award-nominated and Leo Award-winning web-series "The True Heroines", and is the co-creator (with David Milchard) of the IPF and Telus funded, Leo Award Nominated digital series "Paranormal Solutions Inc." (PSI). PSI also marked Nicholas' directorial debut, having directed the Sasquatch/Human bromance episode "Sasquatch is your BC Bud". Nicholas's last produced screenplay "Prodigals" was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 2018 Leo Awards. As an instructor, Nicholas helped develop the curriculum for School Creative's Diploma in Screenwriting Program in Vancouver, B.C. and taught writing for the web, screenplay structure and story & creativity for three years before returning to Toronto in 2018. In 2019, Nicholas and his partner in all things Michelle Ouellet completed the NSI Totally TV Program where they created the one hour medical procedural "Ethics 101", resulting in a deal with Sienna Films to develop and produce the series.
Concurrently with his career in writing and producing, Nicholas has appeared in more than sixty television shows and movies garnering a number of award nominations including Best Actor at the Canadian Comedy Awards for "Hooked on Speedman" and Best Supporting Actor at the Leo Awards for "Afterparty". He started his acting career with "The Famous Jett Jackson" and "Odyssey 5", and has since earned recurring role credits on shows like "Bates Motel" (A&E), "Harper's Island" (CBS), "Shut Eye" (Hulu) and "Mistresses" (ABC), as well as feature films "Citizen Duane", "Prodigals" and the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival hit "Buffaloed" (directed by Tanya Wexler and starring Zoey Deutch). You may also recognize Nicholas from guest starring appearances on "Motive", "Fringe", "Supernatural", "Designated Survivor" and "V" as well as numerous other prime-time dramas. Nicholas' latest project is a feature length comedy "Us in 9 Months" (written with Dave Deveau and the winner of the CFF Harold Greenberg Screenwriting Contest), where he is set to play the leading role. It is being produced by Mary Young Leckie (Maudie) and directed by Michelle Ouellet, and is scheduled to start pre-production once the world goes back to new-normal.
After many years in Vancouver, Nicholas recently moved back to Toronto, ON with his wife and their dog Kricket.
